Puch/ Rear Tail light help!

Anthony Sanchez /

I got the rear light from Treatland! It’s a 12v but running on 6v and the bulbs keep burning out! Could I fix this issue by switching to 6v bulbs ??

Re: Puch/ Rear Tail light help!

What watts?

Re: Puch/ Rear Tail light help!

I’m no light bulb engineer.

But resistance increases as temp goes up. Which reduces current.

Maybe 6v doesn’t get the temps for a 10w 12v bulb up high enough to limit current and it is in some electronic equation range that kills elements?

All that could be completely wrong. Just what comes to mind. Could try higher and lower watt bulbs to see if they like being on the 6v supply better. I’m basing most of this on someone telling me that household incandescent bulbs don’t last as long when used with a dimmer switch. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sounds like you need to figure out how much 'juice' is coming through those lines to blow bulbs . Then correct it .

Yeahh at autozone haha

Re: Puch/ Rear Tail light help!

If you’re running the stock lighting coils you need to have the correct wattage 6v bulbs in all of the lights, headlight tail light and brake light. Treats sells the whole set.

Thanks mike! I’ll have to do that!

Re: Puch/ Rear Tail light help!

The tail light ground runs off the fender/frame which is not the best situation. I usually run a ground wire from the engine block down under the fender (zip tied to the brake light cable sheath) and wire the ground that way just to prevent a poor ground causing blown bulbs as well.
