Is your piston wrist pin stuck?

Mine was. I dont have a fancy tool. But I do have a bucket of spare bolts washers and nuts. I also had some 12mm axel spacers.

The key to the the bolt was it needed to be long enough to get thru the piston and the spacers, also it had to have a small enough head to fit thru the piston while grabbing the wrist pin.

Man this worked like a charm and saved me from beating on my crank. Hope it helps. (edited)

A 8mm nut driver is an exact fit.I just hold the piston . Never needed but a tap or 2.

Good idea tho...

Re: Is your piston wrist pin stuck?

Been using the spare screw method for as long as I've been wrenching .

That's a lot longer than some of you guys have been alive . ;) (edited)

Yes it is. And tried it. This pin was not budging and I did not want to put any more play into my crank than there already is. Ha! But also a very good suggestion if it works with just a few taps. This method worked fine for the garelli top end I just rebuilt. But the puch engine was holding that pin for dear life.

Re: Is your piston wrist pin stuck?

YEP - Gudgeon pins like to be pulled in and pulled out from their bores, not hammered, also a little lube of 2 stroke goes a long way.

Re: Is your piston wrist pin stuck?

Also a little head goes a long wayz

Yep, Though I Like medium or full service better ha ha,

Re: Is your piston wrist pin stuck?

I think I payed around 15$ for a wrist pin puller off treatland. That's cheap

Re: Is your piston wrist pin stuck?

I had a V1 that was stuck so bad I drilled a hole for the wrist pin in a 2x4, found the right sized socket to press, put it in a big vice and gave it Hell. It took quite a bit of pressure, but it came out. Salvaged the crank and piston. Still ruining.

True. But then I gotta wait to do what I was wrenching on. This solved my problem and was parts I already had from previous and the current build. Even the 8mm socket with a screw and washers would have worked if I didnt have the spacers I happen to have.

That said, I always love to have the right tool for the right job.
