Puch Sabre Carb issues

David Landsman /

With all this down time I started working on a few of my older bikes, One in Particular is my Puch Sabre 50cc scooter, (yes no pedals and it has gears)...

I was having trouble getting the carb tight on the intake manifold but i shimmed it with a small piece of metal and got it tight but somehow the throttle cable came out through the top of the carb..

I took the top off the carb and pulled the spring and slide and there was a strange W shaped piece metal below the spring it must be a type of choke slide but not sure how it sits down in there and I can't get it all back together ..

If anyone can explain or point me in the direction of how all that goes back down in there, your help would be much appreciated..

Its not the same as my other Puch mopeds there is something strange about it..

I'll take some pics of the part later today but here is my bike...PLEASE HELP!

Re: Puch Sabre Carb issues

Not familiar with that bike but most carbs have a little metal clip that locks the cable in the slide.

Re: Puch Sabre Carb issues

Needle in it's slide pocket .

Cable through the cap and spring . Compress the spring and slip the cable end in it's slot in the bottom of the slide .

The M goes on top of the needle , flat . Just like in the pic , with the ends pressing against the inside wall of the slide . That locks the needle in place .

Then the spring is allowed to sit on the M . (edited)

ok..I kinda thought it held the needle somehow..i think I know what your saying..

so its sits flat, like at the bottom of the spring, there's like a little sir clip on the top of needle, does it sit on top of that... holding it down...?

gonna try again tomorrow, wish me luck, not at all like my other puchs not even sure this is a bing, gonna pull it off again and see..

Thank you..

Yes, the spring holds that clip down against the needle clip. The U shaped part of the clip aligns with the slot in the slider that the cable goes thru. After its assembled, the needle shouldnt move in and out by much.

I tried to help, I have 16 Puch Sabres and 10 of these Sabres run. Please don't ask me to help. Ask Moped Army they know more than me. (edited)

Sorry you didn't get a decent nights sleep , Richard .

Have a nice hot cup of coffee and maybe even a doughnut . Helps make the world a better place . ;)

Re: Puch Sabre Carb issues

I've seen and own some of Richard's work, so I consider him an expert and not just a "wrencher."

I called him a bit ago because he usually doesn't respond to threads in that manner unless he is really upset. Of course, you cannot always interpret anger or sarcasm in the printed word.

With 16 Sabres, he probably knows what he's talking about.

"Those springs don't belong in the carburetor that go on a Sabre and he won't ever get that carb to work on that bike."

Re: Puch Sabre Carb issues

Twist that "M" about a quarter turn to the left so that the middle of the drop in the M is centered toward that hole. Put the spring in next and feed your your throttle cable down the center of the spring. Your cable knarp is going to drop thru that hole and shift it over so it moves to the skinny portion of the opening and it should hold in place. Now slide all of this into your carb. There is only one way for it to slide in so dont force it. There is a notch on one side of your slide that matches to a little nubb on the inside of the carb. Should drop in easy. Screw down the top plate and twist to heaven.
