Piaggio Bravo single gear into speed governor

Hi ;)

Recently i have been thinking about converting single gear Piaggio Bravo (EEM2T) to one with a speed governor (EEV2T). I want to increase top speed. The scheme below shows that i have to mount new rear hub with gears and clutch attached + speed governor. Its a simple swap of parts. Will this work just fine or is there something else that i should do (for example adjusting something)? (edited)

Re: Piaggio Bravo single gear into speed governor

Yeah it's called a variator here in the USA. Lotsa threads about the conversion.

Re: Piaggio Bravo single gear into speed governor

I did mount variator and rear hub with gears and clutch to the model originally without this parts. Top speed is only 30 km/h (19m/h) and it should be 45-50 km/h (27-30m/h). Can anyone tell me what may be the problem?

Re: Piaggio Bravo single gear into speed governor

how fast did it go before?

Re: Piaggio Bravo single gear into speed governor

I have had vespa restricted in different ways.

A) 12:10 carb (swap for a 12.12)

B)12.8 Carb. (swap for a 12.12 carb, check intake inlet, I have seen some reduced to that must be drilled out to see any gains)

C) Intake Patch opening. (split the cases, file the inlet to be larger, some cases have larger pads)

D) Some different gearing options

E) Exhaust (various restrictions)

what weights did you put into the variator? What size belt?

Re: Piaggio Bravo single gear into speed governor

On original parts it did about 25 km/h (15-18 m/h). After swapping parts it also did 25 km/h. Then i also swapped exhaust so now it goes 30 km/h (30 m/h) - 5 km more. And also the acceleration is kind of choking. it takes much longer to get max speed; it accelerates, slows down and chokes, thae accelerates again.

Declan g, thanks for advice, i shall try them ;)

I took the original variator from another bravo where it was as stock part. Belt is kind of tired so i need to replace it.
