hi guys and girls hope your allll good, im working on an Sparta happy moped for an old friend its a Sachs with a square bing carb 85/10/101. ive cleaned the carb but it still won't start.good spark and compression.when I stripped the carb I noticed the float needle didn't have a rubber tip.it was still pointed but just metal.i did the under water test(blowing through while holding the needle shut) no bubbles, and polished the seat(the bit the needle gos into) my question is did all bing carb needles have a rubber tip.many thanks in advance mick from Ireland

Metal is fine ...if it is not leaking by go leave it ..

Many float needles are all metal .
As long as it doesn't leak , leave it alone , like Pops said .
If it does start leaking look for impurities on the needle tip and seat .
Usually a good seat polish does the trick . And , you've done that , so ...
Did you insure that the idle circuit is clear ?

Bing used that float valve needle til the 70's.

Idle circuit is the path that fuel takes at idle .
It should be obvious when studying what does what when the carb is disassembled .

if u squirt premixed gas into the plug hole and it still dont fire, take a look at decomp valve(leaky oily) or your crank seals. do you have lever choke and the square airbox?

As told by Bing USA the idle circuit is the slides bottom cutout. The main jet, needle and idle screw are other components. All bing slides have a number stamped on the bottom.

hi folks ,thanks a lot for your help, just got it running, there was a cut in the ht lead ( not all the way through a kind of Nic) the spark was intermittent.so every time I took out the plug to test for spark it would move the lead making a connection.so a least now have a nice clean carb.and also I found this forum too. happy days mick from Ireland.
