Transmission/Starting Issues with Tomos A55

Hey guys, in the fall I believe my clutch gave out on my bike. While riding it out one day, it got stuck in first gear, then eventually slowing down to about a walking pace even when on full throttle. After a bit of fiddling and restarting, it eventually would not kick start anymore and I gave up for the season.

I opened up the motor today and am a little confused by how I should proceed. I tried to remove the nut holding in the clutch but it's not coming off with a plain socket wrench. I uploaded an pictures of the pieces I have. There's one broken metal piece that I can't find any other parts to and some little round metal cylinders. They all sounded like they came off as I removed the side panel.

Also, when I moved the moped after working on it, it was making a slight grinding noise coming from the transmission I believe, any ideas on that?

I appreciate any help, thanks again guys! (edited)

Re: Transmission/Starting Issues with Tomos A55

i use an impact to unscrew the clutch nut. once thats off, first gear will pull out, then clutch bell and second gear clutch then a washer.

your countershaft will then wiggle out with pedal shaft, u have a busted roller cage.

keep track of shim washers n placement.

Re: Transmission/Starting Issues with Tomos A55

This part exploded

This is what happens after a few seasons without the second speed return spring. The inside is worn out and the rollers are ovalled. Get a new countershaft assembly. You can try replacing everything if you can get 52 newtons of torque on it. Cheaper to get a used one.

Ouch, yeah. You beefed that one.

You'll have to impact off/piston stop and wrench-off the clutch nut.

Re: Transmission/Starting Issues with Tomos A55

i have one of these round things if your interested

Re: Transmission/Starting Issues with Tomos A55

Hi! That's the countershaft and the piece that exploded basically right? If so yeah I'm interested!

Re: Transmission/Starting Issues with Tomos A55

now u got stuff to trade or money price, 25 shipped for what u see.

Re: Transmission/Starting Issues with Tomos A55

or i can assemble a large flat rate box for 50 shipped if u need more stuff.

Re: Transmission/Starting Issues with Tomos A55

I'll definitely be paying, don't have anything to trade unfortunately. What other parts do you have? Im looking to save as much as I can.

I'll probably be borrowing an impact wrench to make this easier tomorrow, and have a better idea of if I have to do a full rebuild.

Re: Transmission/Starting Issues with Tomos A55

so a tomos 50 box, cork to rebuild your clutches, o-ring clamps, some springs, sprag clip. and whatever elese u need. extra clutch arms. lmk.

as far as saving money, once u take it apart you ll see what u need ill try to supply.

Re: Transmission/Starting Issues with Tomos A55

Awesome thank you, I appreciate it a lot! I'll update you asap on what I need, but that sounds like a majority of it if not all of what I suspect I'll need

Its the 52 Newton thing.

That's some heavy ft lbs when I switched mine out full 5 ft breaker bar shop's anchored vice and 2 peeps.

Re: Transmission/Starting Issues with Tomos A55

Quit doing burn outs and wheelies and that won't happen^^

Tomos can manually shift. When 1rst is worn out you can over rev when it feels like grabbing let off and rev into 2nd. Took 4 years to learn how. I needed a 1rst gear clutch for 3 months. I have everything I just wanna see how long it will work...

Re: Transmission/Starting Issues with Tomos A55

I won't have an impact wrench til Tuesday, but I assume I'll need the parts either way. Do you have clutch springs as well?

Re: Transmission/Starting Issues with Tomos A55

once u take it apart, lemme know what you need or want.
