Carberator

Why does my 1979 pa50 only run with the choke on. When I cut the choke off it dies

Re: Carberator

Clean the carb .

Re: Carberator

Air leak. Choke makes it run rich (more fuel.) With the choke off, it's getting air from somewhere else.

When it's running, spray carb cleaner around all the connections, carb to manifold, manifold to engine, etc.

If it revs up or sputters where you sprayed it, there's your leak.

Re: Carberator

b4 u extract carb. take off that little silver flathead and blast it with brake cleaner/compressed air, do the same with the air mixture screw. now that air mixture screw is something like 3 1/2 turns out as well.

OR a partially clogged passage in carb needs choke to pull the fuel thru.

Check fuel flow with cap on if your fuellinee is restricted it will do that....

^^^^^ what he said

Re: Carberator

A common cause is the pilot jet in the carb is blocked.

Re: Carberator

Is the air filter in place with the correct air filter element (sponge)?

Without the air filter in place (and no other changes to the jets, etc.) the mixture will be too lean.
