Suzuki FA50 speedometer

Dion Pedler /

Hi everyone, first post.

So I have been fixing up a 1980 Suzuki FA50 and I’m nearly ready to get the roadworthy check done on it, but my Speedo every now and then goes a little crazy and jumps all over the place.

I was wondering if anyone would know what I should be looking at to try and stop it. (I don’t think the inspectors are gonna like it)

Any help would be great. Thanks

Re: Suzuki FA50 speedometer

Maybe your cable needs cleaning and greased or i have had to take the grar box off the wheel and clean the grit and grease it...i have the gear box and a cable i think if yours can't be fixed

Re: Suzuki FA50 speedometer

^ This, but I would not worry too much about it, the inspector can't ride along with you to see it....worth fixing more for the odometer than the speedo, not like you will be breaking 30.

Re: Suzuki FA50 speedometer

yea pretty unnecessary. you're either stopped, going 30, or trying your best to go 30

That usually precedes a broken cable , if it's left alone .

Remove the cable . Clean the inner and lube . Re-mount .

If the speedo still acts jumpy , try putting a few drops of light oil in the drive on the underside of the speedo case . Remove the speedo and turn it upside-down to do that^ . Leave it upside-down over night . (edited)

Hi guys, thanks for your help. Ended up taking the cable off either end have it a clean and greased it up.

Seems to have sorted the issue. Hopefully now I have ticked ✅ all the boxes for getting it roadworthy.
