tomos a35 clutch black clips direction?

The 3 black clips that hold the clutch segments and the spring in place. there is a short end and a long tail end. I installed the long tail end tucked into the short end. The short end touches the spring and the long tail end is behind. they may of been installed wrong before I started working on the bike. Those are the way I took them apart and have rub marks. correct or wrong?

any Tomos gurus.

i think its very hard to install these wrongly, meaning they only go in one way.

The black spring clips can go in two ways. The long tail overlaps the short tail or the long tails can go under the short tails. I wasn't the first one to work on this engine. So, I installed the clips with the long tail overlapping the shot tail. This was the opposite way I found them. Also found one set of pins in the wrong hole. This should fix some problems.

I've never seen what you're asking about , but logically , unless there are thrust washers either side of the clips , I'd think you wouldn't want a high end scrapping against the flow . In other words , the high ends should point in the direction of the revolution of the part they lock in place .

Hope that makes some sense . (edited)

Re: tomos a35 clutch black clips direction?

Direction of clips doesn’t matter, just make sure they go on top of each other so the little spring retainer lip is also holding the long tail from moving out of the hub.

I've seen the two pin setup on older a 3s clutches it looks like a factory Thang. If it was work done it was either Factory serviced or home serviced if it was Factory serviced they might have flip the pins so that the clutch shoes will open in a counterclockwise Direction instead of counterclockwise whereas one would slide the other would bite when you got it done at the factory or a factory-authorized service place they use the factory tool to do it and if you look at the tool and you go to use it you'll realize that you'll have to flip it so that they bite instead of slide that's why if you take it to a factory service place with the proper tools you'll get it back I know right even better than when you got it out of the factory great idea to promote Factory Service

My theory on the long tail over lapping the short tail is: metal over metal, instead of metal under metal pinched against aluminum. Your call, also the springs tab keeps every thing lined up to slide in a track. To me that is the correct way, thanks to Pat Splat.

It actually show which way in the manual. The longer goes under the cradle. It stops the short end from getting pinched when the shoes close.
