Puch Snowflake Brakes

Anyone have tips on replacing snowflake magnum brakes? Or is it just brute strength?

Re: Puch Snowflake Brakes

Roll the shoes in like you're flattening out a taco shell

Re: Puch Snowflake Brakes

The snowflakes don't have springs like a maxi. It's a v-shaped and u-shaped spring.

Yeah you still need to use the same method though

Ya taper (sand grind) the last1/4-3/8 inch of each shoe, deglaze rest of shoes with a few hundred grit Sandpaper, do all this with a respirator and do it outside because it is asbestos, take 400 or 500 grit a few times around with your finger in the the hub if it’s ugly looking,

It’s going to take a day or two of putting on the brakes hard to break them in (maybe a bit longer) and they will start stopping better and better But the improvement is worth it,

Now when you remove wheel or adjust the chain, make sure to mark the axle orientation with scratch mark or sharpie going straight up and down on the end of the axle because brakes are not a free-floating system,

If the brakes have been running in one position for a long time as soon as you take off the back wheel or move it the slightest then the axle bend (only a 11mm soft metal so it don’t break) will be on the opposite side of shoe or whatever so you have to put the axle in the same orientation you took it out of or every time the brakes will have to be re-broken in only touching on one side for hundreds of miles,
