back wheel hardly spinning and no power

Christian Barrit /

Hi Moped Army.

I have a problem with my puch maxi k. I am currently trying to renovate it and make it run but there seems to be a bit of a problem. I can assemble the back wheel with spacers and all that. i bought an aftermarket back brake which doesn't seem to be working that well. When i tighten the wheel and adjust my wheel, the wheel won't spin or anything and the chain is also very tight. When i loosen up the bolt on both sides of the back wheel, it can spin but the bolts are nearly not even on. I am currently thinking a solution plan, and i think that i need to adjust my brake in some kind or way or i need to do something to the bearings.

My second problem with the bike is when i actually finished building my bike and was going for a ride, it would not run properly. It seems like the bike was making a lot of power but when i had it on full throttle, but i just couldn't take off.

I really want my bike assembled the right way, and i hope someone can help me.

Thanks in advance.

Wheel bearings are probably shot.

Sounds like you don't have nuts on the rear axle inside your dropouts. Take a pic of the rear axle in the bike when it doesn't spin (edited)

I figured out that the back brake was kind of grinding up the rear wheel and resulting in not spinning the wheel, but what do i need to do? add washers and spacers?

I will post a picture later

Myron’s also has a diagram for the wheels if you search too.

You can open a door...

Now you need a detailed pamphlet tellin you how to walk through it...

Re: back wheel hardly spinning and no power

i didnt grow up messing with bikes so the whole loose bearing learning curve was annoying. if it has" loose bearings" u have to get that thin wrench and pinch the acorn nut and small nut together so they "lock" in place on the axle. correct bearing clearance is a trial n error thing. do both sides, sorry my danish is terrible, pictures may help.

Re: back wheel hardly spinning and no power

Danish and loose bearings would be a terrible treat . ;)

Or shove a bearing ring or replace the cups with sealed bearings...

I have sealed bearings right now, and nothing seems to be wrong with them.

Re: back wheel hardly spinning and no power

oh, something binding then. pictures help, so aftermarket brake plate?

Well then you need spacer nuts basically one will go behind your break thing onto where the bearing is itself there should be a washer between it and the bearing and on the other side next to your sprocket there should be another one and those should B doubled so that it can't back off then on the sprocket side you tighten the end so it has clearance and lines up with the motor tighten it down and then go to the break side and tighten that the same way.

Ok thank you. I also realised that the brake itself is kinda stiff. Does that have something to do that it’s new? Because I spend a lot time getting the cable on because the brake handle thing was very stiff and not very responsive when I hold down the brake lever. I have videos and pictures but it seems like I can’t post it on here

Graphite the cable you can take it off and re adjust the whole shebang from scratch...

Beware fraying any thing. Put your adjusters all the way in pull the handle and either work the adjuster off of it is slit if n.a. pop out the brake nub thing in the handle. Cellophane tape the end and trim the edge

to cut take tape off before retheading it....

Or remove brake hub armature readjust adjusters half way before tightening.
