77 Peugeot 103 won’t start?

77 Peugeot 103. Installed treats Motobecane CDI party with CDI. Now have excellent spark thanks to Cheetahchrome’s diagram. However cannot get the bike to start? Gurtner carb has been cleaned. Did not have the air box on though. Also the clutch keeps loosing off the shaft no matter how tight I make it?

Thoughts? Seems like it’s getting gas, just won’t start?

Re: 77 Peugeot 103 won’t start?

Did you set the timing correctly? Is the moped variated? Did you remove the clutch before?

Re: 77 Peugeot 103 won’t start?

r u using a drill to start? start o# the variator nut and make sure u spin the right direction.

Re: 77 Peugeot 103 won’t start?

Yes it is variated and we replaced the clutch with a new one. It was on the bike when we were trying to start.

The timing is what I am concerned about. I think we need to look at that again:?

Re: 77 Peugeot 103 won’t start?

No we used a drill to check spark but not to start. I was pedaling the moped while someone was choking it manually. Have great spark but would not start.

Does the airbox have to be hooked up to start?

How did you set the timing? No the air filter doesn't have to be one it for it to start.

Re: 77 Peugeot 103 won’t start?

My buddy found top dead center on the piston and then we retarded it slightly and then set the mark on the fly wheel to the mark on the case.

What you call slightly?

Re: 77 Peugeot 103 won’t start?

Not sure. I am going to place at 1.5mm prior to TDC and then try again.

Re: 77 Peugeot 103 won’t start?

if your clutch is spinning freely it's installed wrong.

Prolly, your starter shoes aren't engaging...take off the variator and make sure your are installing it based on this:
