Is a hobbit rectifier necessary?

i can not get it to spark as originally wired. i get fat spark by directly connecting stator blk/yellow to blk/white of coil.

Both kill wires work properly, key and on/off switch.

So, its gotta be the rectifier, right?

also, i made sure that green wire was connected to the rectifier as well.

if its not necessary, im just gonna splice one of the kills into the coil wire.

Re: Is a hobbit rectifier necessary?

Super interesting question. I have a spare silicon rectifier I'm sure. The very knowledge that it's not "necessary" convinces me that it must have a purpose because Honda just doesn't do stuff for no good reason. My uneducated guess is that it somehow reduces arcing at the points or something like that. Maybe major prolonging the life of the ignition system. Just a guess.

Re: Is a hobbit rectifier necessary?

Stator black/yellow to coil white/black should hotwire it. The ignition/killswitch will cut the bike when they're hooked straight into each other?

Re: Is a hobbit rectifier necessary?

well...i had nice fat spark and it fired up for a few seconds on some premix but now no spark, damn. The rectifier must do something.

it'll spark rarely n just disappear.

if ya wanna sell your spare rectifier marc lmk how much u want for it.

when u connect black yellow to coil black white, you bypass all the ignition kill loop.

Re: Is a hobbit rectifier necessary?

Before you do anything, file the points. I ran my Hobbit hotwired as you described for 2 years without issue. Intermittent spark is almost always the points.

Re: Is a hobbit rectifier necessary?

Pm me your address and I'll find one hopefully tomorrow.

Re: Is a hobbit rectifier necessary?

your right nick h. sanded and cleaned the points again and wabam!
