Honda express tail light glued to base?

Hi,

after getting a new battery and hooking up the tail light wiring I noticed the tail light is not working. So I got a screwdriver to pop off the rear tail light cover but there was no screws ?? I noticed the last person decided to glue it on instead of screwing it on. Any suggestions how to get it off?

Re: Honda express tail light glued to base?

A utility knife might cut through the glue .

Multiple stokes , a little at a time .

Too much , too soon will have you buying a new tail light .

That might just be the best course , being as you're asking .

Maybe someone has a used one they'd sell you .

Post in the BUY/SELL section .

Bet they used super glue. Just get a new one.

Super glue breaks down and looses its bond with exposure to moisture. So....

If you have to break the lens off you can just buy a new one

Or buy this one with screws. Has crack in housing base seen in last photo.

Might try heating with a hair dryer

.be careful not to get the lens too hot

Re: Honda express tail light glued to base?

I'd use a piece of fishing line and cut it all the way around and then properly screw it in unless the holes where stripped bad enough that he had no choice but to super glue it.

EDIT:

The parts where the screws screw in on the inside themselves might even be snapped off which might be why it was glued in the first place.(edited)

This is usually what idiot PO’s do when the mounts snap off. I’ve gotten many a moped where this has been done by the PO.
