I'll drain them if they're going to be sitting a month or so, but otherwise don't bother. I only clean em based on how the bike's running or annually just for maintenance.
If you drain the carb or run it out of gas (turn the gas off, run the bike until it dies due to fuel starvation) it will last indefinitely. If you leave modern gas in it, probably 2-3 months before shit needs to be cleaned out

Measurable corrosion starts above 40% relative humidity... just saying...
If you are storing and it is in damp storage area, park it on some 4mil plastic and cocoon the entire bike, put a open bag of kitty litter inside the cocoon before you tape it well, it will wick any damp.
ive had pretty good luck w using stabil. no draining, no burning off extra gas in bowl. Topped off fuel tank. bravo fired right up after 6 months, im in so cal. hobbit did too but didnt idle, some brake cleaner thru that little flat head cleared it out easily though, so i guess it depends on a few things. carb design, tank cleanliness, oldish gas, environment, etc.
I let my Hobbit sit 2 1/2 years once, 3/4 tank, but petcock closed and carb run dry, Stabil in fuel, started right up, ran shitty until that gas was used up, ran fine once fresh was put in. Bike was stored in an underground apt parking garage, ave temp about 50 F. Just ran out of gas on my last ride today, got home on reserve...had a look in the tank, still amazingly clean. I chose not to refill it as it is stored inside my apt, (don't live in the place with the garage anymore). The enemy is A moisture, and b, not closing the damn valve, the gas in carb evaps, leaving the oil and any additives in the gas, and then a little more flows in and evaps, lather rinse repete until the carb is full of that lovely varnish. Run that shit dry, until it will not even pop, let it idle out, even if it will die if you give it gas, let it idle out. Stabil is your fiend, I add it or lately been using Sea-Foam instead, 1-2 oz per gallon of pre-mix you make.
Remove the ethanol, pour in proper amount of StaBil, run the bike. You can forget it for a year.
Always nice to just start it up every few months if possible.
As long as you want provided you don't want to start it right away I mean anytime I put away a carb or a bike I basically just drain it and you know what when I go to start it I always pull it out and service it anyway I mean technically if you put the bike away you can take the carburetor off and clean it and just leave it in a disassembled in a box
if it has a SHA with a plastic bowl...a long time
