Vespa w/ Kinetic CDI ignition?

It's been so long that I had forgotten...

I have a Ciao engine with a pre-2004 Kinetic CDI ignition. For the life of me, I can't remember which flywheel I used, as I have both the stock Vespa points one, and the Kinetic CDI one. Seems that I need to use the Kinetic one to match the Kinetic coil to fire properly, correct?

Thanks in advance (though you can't really advance or retard this set-up, lol).

Vespa Points Flywheel will not work. You have to use the Kinetic one.

The one without markings and a bigger inspection window should be the Kenitic. You can adjust timing. Just lap it and time it without the keyway.

Mine was firing 1.8ATDC so I had to time it without a keyway. Stoked I got it right where I wanted it, but the Kenitic flywheel I have is WAY out of balance....Hope yours is not!

I would check timing with a light to see where it is at with the Keyway in place and see if you even want to mess with it.

Eric brings up a good point tho, the kinetic flywheels went through a bunch if iterations, some better than other, and they don't all interact with the stator the same way.

Either way, checking with a light will let you know how things are looking.

BTW.

You can always mechanically alter the timing w/or w/o base gaskets and thickness thereof...
