Your mechanic should have pointed that one out! Spark plugs need to have a proper amount of gap between the two electrodes at the tip in order for the spark to efficiently ignite the air/fuel mix entering the cylinder. Use a set of feeler gauges or a cheap spark plug gap gauge (coin-shaped) from any auto store. But definitely just buy a new plug and set that one.
