boot and spark plug wire

The wire popped ( on its own)out of my moped boot looking like a jumbled up stereo wire. Is this normal? I want to get a new boot but am not sure if the wire is correct. Should I clip it off and start fresh? Excuse my ignorance. Thank you

Re: boot and spark plug wire

Not really. Mine is cut flat and if you look closely in the socket , there is a small pointed threaded post you screw onto the cable.

Look inside the spark plug cap where the wire came out of. If you see a screw in there sticking out, just clip off the end of the wire and screw it down on that threaded post. If you don’t see a threaded screw down there, your spark plug cap is no good and will need replacement.

Re: boot and spark plug wire

ok, thank you. I understand now. Thanks for the knowledge.

both posters are wrong, where the plug tip goes is a slotted brass screw. wide slotted screw driver and lefty loosy. by the way its zero ohms. cut the excess wire off, the brass screw has a wedge point that goes right into the black cover.

By that^ , there might be a bit of old wire casing left inside the cap . That scrap casing would have to be removed before inserting the 'new' trimmed wire end .
