What's wrong with this exhaust?

I picked up a stock magnum recently. A little over 5000 miles and was sitting in a basement for years. Fired right up and went down the road about 28mph. I'm pulling it apart for service. It seems like someone over tightened the end cap and pulled it into the exhaust. First time seeing this. It ran fine but damn it's the ugliest pipe I've ever seen!

I'm surprised the nut didn't punch a hole in the cap.

I pressed mine in all the way to make it look like a megaphone

I got the 10mm but off but the cap is jammed in there and won't come out.

Try PB Blaster. Works a lot of stuff loose. Since a feeler gauge is thin, maybe you could run something like that around the edge and see if it loosens it.

Glancing blow’s with a rubber mallet

Re: What's wrong with this exhaust?

take a picture of your cylinder bore, piston all the way down. or of your piston scratchy side.

Re: What's wrong with this exhaust?

Piston and cylinder look every bit serviceable to me .

I'd clean the piston , including the ring landings . If there's decent compression , I'd run with it . Maybe just a light hone . Be sure the rings move as they should in each landing .

If you do get new rings , definitely hone the cylinder .

Once together , I'd definitely clean the outside of the top end . There's enough crap built up on the fins to advance an over heat problem .

Yeah, it ran pretty good just seemed very oily. I was able to get the exhaust apart and cleaned. Definitely going to clean up the piston, grooves and fins. Is the e50 base gasket the same as a za50? I'm thinking it is but it's been a while since I worked on mopeds.

Re: What's wrong with this exhaust?

I don't know if the E and ZA base gaskets are the same .

I always cut my own from rubberized gasket paper , bought at NAPA . Cheap and a lot quicker than waiting for who knows what quality you might get , if it isn't lost in the mail . ;)

I like to cut my own as well but this one ripped coming off so I have no template. I searched the wiki for a template with no luck.

Flip the cylinder up side down. Measure the sleeve and cut that circle out . Oil the flat mating surfaces and slide the cut out over the sleeve . Press the cut out on the flat and remove . The underside will have a perfect outline of what you need . ;)
