Can't shut her off.

So I adjusted the carb so she wouldn't stall at a stop or at idle. Problem is, there is no kill switch. Other than letting the fuel run out, how can I shut it off? I'll be ordering a kill switch next. 1977 Columbia Commuter/Sachs motor.

Does it have a decomp lever? That will shut it down

Re: Can't shut her off.

Should of been a blue wire for kill switch on bars. Touch it to ground or handle bars.(edited)

Re: Can't shut her off.

Is that decomp lever the small one near the throttle?

Re: Can't shut her off.

If you're feeling frisky just pull the spark plug boot off

I knew that was an option, but I don't want to do that.

The blue wire is connected to the other wires on the right side.Should i splice into the blue one?

Connected or taped to other wires?? Connected how?

On my motobecane it is.

You can see the blue one going to the same place as the others.

Haha,good one.

Re: Can't shut her off.

So take the right control apart carefully and extract the blue wire so it can hang freely to ground to bars when needed.

If it can't be removed easily then tap into it with another short strand of wire to use for ground.

Re: Can't shut her off.

Stick ya boot up it’s arse!

Just cover the exhaust with the tip of your shoe. It will die.

Does your bike have a choke on the carb? You could use that if the engine is warm

Re: Can't shut her off.

put your finger over the carb hole.

unplug the spark plug boot

wire kill switch.

Re: Can't shut her off.

Bad Cadillac™ /

Use the choke.

Re: Can't shut her off.

Well I learned something new today. When I pull on either brake lever, the motor dies. This doesn't seem normal to me.

Re: Can't shut her off.

Brake light bulb is burned out. Replace blown 6 volt bulb.

Re: Can't shut her off.

Why would the brake light bulb being out kill the engine? Also I checked it and the brake light comes on but very faint.

Re: Can't shut her off.

Did you remove and visually check the brake light bulb????????????????????????

Check your ground connections in tail light assembly, rear fender and motor.

Re: Can't shut her off.

I did .I'll replace both bulbs. All connections in the tab light assembly are good. now to check the rest.

Re: Can't shut her off.

No reason to change both bulbs if they are good.

Re: Can't shut her off.

So I removed the brake light bulb, wheni apply the brake lever she doesn't stall. With the bulb in, she stalls when brake lever applied. Front or rear. Diagnosing lectrical problems is not my strong point.

Did you extract the blue wire from control pod on bars like I mentioned above^? If so, that would be the reason. The commuter is wired differently than most others. Put it back and tee into blue for grounding to bars to kill motor until you can repair kill switch.

I haven't yet but I'm going to do it now. The blue wire goes to the throttle side.Biu when i pull on either brake the motor cuts out.

Re: Can't shut her off.

You have a new and seperate problem . I need to look closer at the wiring diagram cause there is a separate circuit for brake light that should not effect ignition coil killing the motor. Dont do anything yet. Leave the blue wire alone for now. Post some pics to show the overall condition of ped. Handle bars, wiring above motor and tail light.

Re: Can't shut her off.

Is the tail light working? Does it go dim too when you pull brake lever?

Tail light assembly:

Green is brake light bulb.

Gray is tail light bulb.

Look at your third connection which is ground for both and follow it back to its connection source on fender or frame.
