A3 seal orientation

I am having difficulty finding definitive answer in repair manuals or forums regarding seal orientation for my tomos A3.

Replacing all 4 (2 crank shaft, 1 main shaft, and 1 pedal crank).

Also, is there a rule of thumb for installing? I had to buy another main shaft seal when attempting to install because it bottomed out on bearing and I had to remove it, destroying in process.

Thanks

Re: A3 seal orientation

Install them flush with the case.

Re: A3 seal orientation

ive seen em both ways, but generally cupped side towards inside, makes installing cleaner more surface area to tap in.

Re: A3 seal orientation

Yup, cuppa side in.

The manual actually says that they face the same way the clutch side the O seal is on the tranny side and the stator is flush so that way if you have a leak it will suck are in on the stator side and blow exhaust out the transmission if they fail instead of spraying oil on your stator or sucking oil out of the crankcase

there is also a double sided seal that will go on the tranny side it has O's on both sides they were higher quality and used in the earlier years
