This doesn't sound normal, is this the piston hitting the head? Do I need to space it out? I built this a few years ago but this is the first time it's ever started, give me some time to backtrack what setup I have.

Re: First start knocking sound

Sounds like something in the transmission to me.

Is that just when cold? if so it might be the cylinder

Re: First start knocking sound

Pull the plug and insert a length of solder . Enough to reach the cylinder wall . Then crank the motor a few full revolutions while holding the solder firm in one place .

Pull the solder out and measure the end section . That should tell you if the piston is hitting the head and give an idea of squish .
