Putting a new motor on an old moped

I have a Jawa Babetta 210 sport. This moped was not maintained well and there is a lot wrong with it. I have little to no working knowledge of these things and I was curious if the engine and power transfer could be replaced with a newer setup. Parts have been really hard to find. If you can put a 50cc engine on a bicycle, why not replace the old motor on the Jawa?

Good cantidate for a Puch e50 swap. Been done before. Why not

Re: Putting a new motor on an old moped

you can but the mounting brackets might not match up so you would have to be good with welding. Your motor doesn't look bad. Id be interested in your spare parts if you do upgrade though. I cant see the rest of the bike but it looks like you just need the decompression and throttle set up.

Re: Putting a new motor on an old moped

Then again I would probably keep it the way it is...bit I'm a glutton for punishment...ur profile pic show that it had a neat pipe on it.

The pipe that was on it kept hitting the pedals. Not the stock exhaust.

Where can I find some info on getting this old girl running without swapping the motor? I have all my cables, cleaned the carb, have my throttle. All I need is my exhaust and some info. I was able to find a wiring diagram.

Read Fred's guide

These run pretty good with a pipe and even better with a 15MM SHA and Puch intake. Just make that engine go. The two speeds do have a bit of a learning curve though.

Re: Putting a new motor on an old moped

I would buy the 210 off of you if you don't want it.

Re: Putting a new motor on an old moped

it's a 210! those are pretty sweet! who had it? looks like they rigged an improved intake and SHA carb setup so that rules, fit a decent pipe on and you should be good. if the ignition is bad that's a dickpain but if it's ok then it'll probably stay that way - and it looks like it's got the updated good transistor too. win.

I vote hard for fix your jawa because jawas are cool and motorswapped jawas are meh

Wait just read all he other comments - you HAVE a good pipe? WTF man! don't ditch the pipe cuz it hits the pedals, modify the pedals to not hit the pipe!!!

any swap you swap will have more difficult issues than that anyway

Re: Putting a new motor on an old moped

Use this to get the wiring in order. Not completely sure this is the correct wiring diagram.

You will probably need one of these.

I made two of these go again. Both had thyristors that made spark but it would fade when revved, among other issues. I just put over 650 miles on my 210 Sport in Florida this winter. These things are better than what most people think. (edited)
