tomos targa lx, new kit but wont start

Just put a new kit on my tomos targa lx. New airsal cylinder and piston, puch high compression head, new exhaust (its the same stock model), and carb is a dellorto SHA 14.12 its about 1-2 years old but I recently cleaned it. When I first installed the kit i used the stock head and it would start with a lot of work and then would barely stay running not enough power to ride. then i put the high comp head on and since I have not been able to get it to start once.

yes but but poorly did not go over 20mph

Re: tomos targa lx, new kit but wont start

check to see if exhaust is plugged?

Did you jet the carb for the kit?

Did you check your seals?

Did you check for airleaks via leakdown test?

Probably Fred /

Piston arrow pointing down ?

Re: tomos targa lx, new kit but wont start

Dellorto 14/12? I'd change to a 15/15 with a kit.

I know I should get a bigger carb or at least jet to improve performance but i didnt think that would be stopping it starting.

Re: tomos targa lx, new kit but wont start

I'm just saying it might be a blessing you DIDN'T get it started. You can burn up a kit really fast with too lean a mixture. Not starting could of course be something else.

Get the bigger carb and intake.

New carb on still no start, tried putting carb cleaner/starter fluid right into cylinder and no start. Could my timing be off with the new kit?

okay firstly the the motor was it ever gone over was rebuilt from the bottom up before the kit if it was only going 20 you're probably had a seal leak among other things firstly I've replace the seals chances are you have a seal leak if not then it's a base gasket leak and if it's not that it's an intake seal leak you may have high compression but that don't mean dick if you have a case leak it won't get gas no matter how hard you try cuz there's no suck that and a kit if you didn't put the proper gaskets underneath will put the timing way off my guess is is if it's hard to start and was getting gas it would be most likely a timing issue

The plug gets wet after turning the engine over so ive been assuming that gas is getting to the plug. Also I tried putting my finger over intake and there was a vacuum.

Re: tomos targa lx, new kit but wont start

try a new plug.

You stated that the plug got wet ... That could easily foul the plug .

Either clean the plug with brake cleaner or try a fresh plug .

You might try leaning the mixture a bit , as a wet plug could also mean the mix is too rich .

Re: tomos targa lx, new kit but wont start

Always change plugs, even if new. I've seen new ones that were no good.

Re: tomos targa lx, new kit but wont start

You seem to have fuel and compression. To be certain you can get a cheap compression tester and do a quick test.

Next thing I would do is make sure you got spark. Either clean the plug or get a new one and check spark at the plug.

If you got all of those, you should have a running engine.

Also when you installed the kit the gaskets that are under the cylinder affect the timing so if the gaskets are thicker then the original you'll be too far Advanced for it to start and vice versa
