mbk cdi voltage reg?

I haven't even started yet but I am getting ready to install my mbk cdi on my 12V 50v moby.

i've done it before on a pug and all is well but from what i can see the moby should be pretty straightforward

just so ya know i still have the original on/off switch and it actually works quite well horn, kill, brakes and headlight/taillight all work!

anyway, i got a voltage regulator (unknown origin) thrown in with the buy but it has 4 wires instead of 2...2 yellow, 1 blk and 1 red

so i know the yellow would get tied into lights and the black to ground but the red is i presume for a battery which i don't have...

ultimately the question is...

a) do i really need the regulator since it didn't have one before?

b) can i just leave the red disconnected?

any insights from the electrical wizards is helpful...cuz i really do suck at most things involving electrics...

thx

Re: mbk cdi voltage reg?

Can you post pics of your intall and progress?

I'm about to install the le partie cdi on my motobecane.

Motobecanes use a Zener Diode which dumps excess voltage to ground so it technically is regulating the voltage . So yes , use a voltage regulator .

I've had good luck with cheap 2 wire regulators from Treats.

thx man...yeah, i saw those...was just wondering if the 4 wire one would work. i may wire it up w/o a regulator to make sure it's functioning before trying to buy a new regulator..

thx for the input
