Puch Maxi Real Troubles

Craig Rodgers III /

Hey guys, so I'm having trouble with my 1976 Puch Maxi Nostalgia. Here's my setup:

50cc stock e50 motor

12mm Bing with stock atomizer and 76 jet

Techno bullet pipe

Metal mesh air filter

New k star 50cc piston and rings

Everything else stock except for rear shocks and seat

So the trouble is i cant get it to start. Ive looked at Fred's guide over and over. The timig is set perfectly, I have 110 compression, a bright blue spark, and fuel running to the motor. A couple months ago in the cold I would ride this thing every day and put some real miles on it, now that it warmed up and I down jetted one size it will not run at all, any thoughts?

Overpriced Parts /

Always use choke when starting

Maybe Blocked filter in banjo fitting in carb, blocked fuel flow somewhere or air leak

Put a bit of gas in cylinder through plug hole and try kicking over

Thanks for the reply, I actually just tried that today I was thinking that starting fluid might make things a little easier but I'm not sure

How did you determine that you’re getting fuel to the engine?

Pull the plug out after trying to start it and see if it’s wet with gas. If it isn’t the problem could be your crank seals.

I put the plug in kicked it over and then pulled the plug, it is wet afterward but still won't start

Yep, fresh fuel mixed to exactly 50:50

Hey guys so update:

I brought the moped home from college, literally first kick and it started up, ran, and I rode it all day. Not really sure why it won't run at college which is like 45 minutes from my house where it does run

Im thinking you have a intermittent electrical issue or a fouled plug.

Not related to your problem, but your oil mixture was so lean.

your engine will produce more HP, with less engine wear when you run a richer oil mixture. 24:1 as a minimum, but 20:1 is preferred using a high quality MX oil.

20:1 ? That’s whack.

50:1 is fine

try to run 40:1 Am-sol synthetic... when did you put on the chamber? ..does this bike have a quirky tail light grounding problem.

shoot a little ether to detect leaks.
