A3 rear wheel sealed bearing conversion

Well I got an axle, spacer, and sealed bearings, I am nervous about getting it on there right though. What do I need to make sure of as far as washers, spacers, etc? Sorry for being a noob and thanks!

Re: A3 rear wheel sealed bearing conversion

Do I need to space out the brake hub? Do I need to have some kind of spacers going the whole length of the axle?

Re: A3 rear wheel sealed bearing conversion

You'll definitely need a spacer on either side of the wheel between the wheel and swingarm. You don't necessarily need one that goes the whole length of the axle. The main thing is having a spacer between the bearings and then spacers on the outside of the wheels. Also make sure you space your wheel enough away from the lefrt sir of the swingarm so that the chain lines up straight with your sprockets.

Re: A3 rear wheel sealed bearing conversion

As far as the brake plate you just want to make sure the wheel spins free while it's attached and it's not rubbing or anything. If it's rubbing you may need a spacer between the wheel and brake plate.

Thank you!

Re: A3 rear wheel sealed bearing conversion

Just did this recently and did it wrong. You’re gonna want to space your hub from the wheel or it’ll torque and rub the edge of the brake cavity when you apply brakes. Then it’ll start to wear and fuck up the rim. And you’ll get metal shavings in the rim and then it won’t stop we’ll and then you’ll prob die.

If you want to use the loose bearing brake hub you best use a 12mm axle turned down to a 11 thread with as much 11mm thread as possible. That way you can use those lil 5mm thick nuts and some locktite to set the spacing between everything

I think you might be able to use a later model sealed bearing brake hub but not sure.
