If it's not leaking, just keep running it with a paper pleated in line filter.Like PD said, don't leave it half-full,fill it after your rides. Meantime a large tank is a plus,so find one that'll fit over the tomos frame.

i had the same with a pug 103 I restored, it would clean up good then rust over again within a day, like others have said as long as the tank is not leaking and you have got rid of all the large flakes of rust (if not fill with the required cleaning product and add a bag of 1cm metal nuts and give it a good shake) just fill it with mixed gas and oil to the top as soon as its cleaned and fit a filter after the gas tap, the fuel may be orange for a couple of tanks of gas but it will eventually settle down as the oil lays a coating. just change the filter every so often. I have attached a pic of the type that would be best as it will trap all the small particles.

ensure you but the correct sized ones as thy come in lots of different sizes and pipe sizes. On ebay or similar you should be able to get a pack of 5 for a few dollars.

Thanks for all the great advice. Bairdco you're right about rotating the frame. It is THE problem with trying to clean and coat the tank. I'm not a fan of these integrated tanks

I had a very bad maxi tank once....it was rusty, but it was also super crusty. I took a handful of 1 inch drywall screws and hot water/degreaser and shook the crap out of it when I had it disassembled down to the frame. The sharp screws broke apart all the debris, and what came out was chunks of fossilized gasoline/lacquer and gunk about the volume of a baseball, some chunks the size of a ping pong ball.

I probably would have never gotten that out or know about it without the screws, and would have been doomed to a life of inexplicably dirt gas. Cant seem to find the pictures though.

I think what came out of the maxi tank would gave that a run for its money...I really gotta find it
