Seal between pipe and baffle on magnum stock exhaust

What do you use between the pipe and baffle on your stock magnum/maxi exhaust? I’ve currently got a bike tube wrapped around the pipe with the baffle around it but I’m getting a little big of an exhaust leak there. Any better suggestions or just keep tightening?

You're probably missing the gasket (321.1.16.819.1). Google that and you can see what it looks like. You should be able to cut your own out of some gasket paper.

That gasket is made up of asbestos, I wouldn’t risk grinding it out to put a new one in I would just wrap some aluminum foil around the header so it’s kind of tight then reclamp.

I have like 12 of those pre-made gaskets from gasket kits. Always end up in the bottom of a drawer because I never run stock pipes.

If you have to remove asbestos, wet it while you abrade or disturb it and wear a respirator. That stuff is no joke to yer lungs.

I used a steel shim and then the rubber pipe clamp treats sells.
