I took this e50 engine off of a barn find. Top end not included. Cleaned it to find a hole in the case in transfer area exposing the case screw. My question, is this garbage? Is it fixable? Do I need to take the whole thing apart? I’m not a mechanic but I’ve put together a few mopeds, so my skill level is that of a novice for sure. Do I need mad skills and special fancy tools to fix it, that is if it can and should be fixed? Any advice would be appreciated I hate to put time into something that’s not gonna work. Thanks folks!

Its a pretty common thing to happen if youre not careful when case matching. Happened to me when case matching for a 74 airsal..

I just put a glob of yamabond/motoseal on the screw before driving it home, and smeared some over the hole for good measure and let it cure up before assembling the top end. No leaks so far for me.

Re: Puch E50 engine case - can it be used?

id just back off that bolt and stick some moto seal 1 on threads n head of bolt. transfer surface is pushing it

You could use it, but it is less than ideal and obviously a point of failure in the future.

Re: Puch E50 engine case - can it be used?

As mentioned, and I'll second, this happens pretty commonly if people mess up case matching. Then they seal it and get back to riding.

Curious what its matched to. Shaped like airsal 70 maybe

Not sure what was on it but my plans are to run an Airsal 44mm 65cc kit in this thing. I’ll do my best to patch it up as recommended but I think I better start looking for a new case now LOL! Thanks for the advice y’all!

I would try and run it. If it causes problems, you're out $10 for new seals and a couple hours to plop all the innards into new cases.

Re: Puch E50 engine case - can it be used?

This is odd... where is the gasket marker to seal the case half? What kinda crank did it come with? Where is the jb weld or welds to seal the widen transfer ports? Allen head bolts?

This came from a barn with no topend completely rust free? No carbon build up? (edited)

Re: Puch E50 engine case - can it be used?

Depends on some peoples idea of barn find. It could have been in a sealed box, in a dry barn. He did say he cleaned them also.

Okay but where is the gasketmarker? By the way I think "he" has a vag

I don't think lack of squashed out sealant proves it is not between the case halves

Also, defending someone's gender id for respect's sake is nullified once you use the term "vag."

I wasn't defending someone's gender Id because I don't know this person.

Everybody relax LOL. The barn find was purchased from a young dude that started restoring a bike a few years ago then he was given a motorcycle so the moped stayed unfinished. The barn was very nice indeed, not dilapidated by any means with a few classic cars in there too. The case was put back together with new bearings and seals I don’t know what kind of crank it is but the top end never went on probably because the hole in the case? Anyway, I bought the engine & book rack because the frame had already sold.

Waiting for my Treatland goodies then the moment of truth. Exciting!

You can only hit the like button once

Haha! All in good fun and humor. Moped Army is Super Rad! Lots of great help and guidance here. I wouldn’t be able to keep my rides running if not for this site and the folks that comprise it. Good times!
