looking for solution for intake tube for 1980 Indian AMI-50

I just picked up a 1980 Indian AMI-50 in pieces but mostly complete for $50. The carb I have is the Mikuni but it is shot. I ordered the suggested replacement on the wiki and it has a flange style carb mount instead of the clamp. In short Ive been searching for an intake pipe that has bolt hold spacing of 32mm on the carb end and 35mm on the cylinder end. OR is there an adapter available so i can use the pipe i have? I've seen a bunch that were much larger but none with 32mm spacing for bolts. I feel like there should be something available but i'm just looking in the wrong place. Im pretty new to mopeds, but id love to get this thing going! Any ideas or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

cool!

While not always ideal, you can halfass alotta things easily with hose clamps and radiator hose

Ok nice.

I just ordered a little nub that will fit on the carb. I'll try to rig it up with some hose and clamps. I hope I can get it going. Is the engine even worth putting a bunch of effort into? It seems like people hate on it hard.

Part of the hate is because it's a 4-cycle, when most vintage mopeds are two-cycle. They can't be hopped-up like a two-cycle and there is zero aftermarket for it. The motor is a knock-off of the Honda PC50. I think it's worth messing with, just because it's something different.

I'd fix it . I'd bet you get more conversation and compliments on a stock Indian than you ever thought possible .

There are things that can be done to increase performance , 4 stroke or not .

Maybe not a lot , but still .

If you want the same thing as everyone else , you can expect to pay through your nose and not just another 50 bucks .

Re: looking for solution for intake tube for 1980 Indian AMI-50

I have a 1979 Indian AMI 50 moped. It came with a Tillotson carburetor which is essentially a block of metal with a few diaphragms. It was terrible, but the intake did have 32 mm spacing holes to attach the carburetor. I bought a Keihin clone for $13.86 delivered from Amazon. I bought it not knowing if it would work solely because it was advertised as having 32mm intake hole spacing and was so cheap. It bolted right on and works great. In 1979 Indian mopeds came with Tillotson and Keihin carburetors both use intakes with 32 mm spacing holes. You should be able to find an intake from a 1979 Indian. I buy a lot of parts from Myron's Moped. The owner is Shaun Strahm. His website does not work like others. You cannot order online. You have to email him at Shaun Strahm <myronsmoped@gmail.com> He probably has the intake you need. He will answer your email and is somewhat of an expert on Indian as well as other mopeds. Good Luck!
