Vespa grande cuts out

The bike cuts out when ideling and when given throttle. I'm wondering if it's electrical or if it's running rich.* Moved to this forum by grahammotzing

Re: Vespa grande cuts out

Carb jet might be clogged. Check spark plug also and clean and gap points to .014 " , fourteen thousandths of an inch.

I'll give it a shot.

Re: Vespa grande cuts out

Is the stock air cleaner installed? If the air cleaner falls off they run lean and cut out when you try to up throttle.

Yeah it's stock. I tried everything don said, but got no results.

Re: Vespa grande cuts out

So long as you can see that the air cleaner is absolutely attached to the carb and not just sitting in there loose which I have seen a couple of times.

LOL! Good one Don!

Re: Vespa grande cuts out

Agree with Don about the partially clogged jet. Start the bike on the stand and with one hand on the throttle use the other hand to manipulate the choke lever on and off to see if you can get it to up the RPM.

Re: Vespa grande cuts out

clean out carb, n poke wire thru idle hole below throttle slide. run inline filter, the tiny one.

Carb is clean. It's been pulled off countless times. Jets are completely clear. They have been replaced with the correct size recently. Points were set and cleaned. Spark plug has been replaced just today. The plug is the exact same as the last and now the bike won't even start.

Re: Vespa grande cuts out

Could the coil wire or spark plug boot be faulty? Seems funny that it won't start after you did the new plug.

Good one Don! LOL!

Re: Vespa grande cuts out

Did you remember that after adjusting the points gap, you MUST check and adjust the ignition timing? (edited)

theres only one changeble main jet. the idle jet hole, is a hole in the body, not interchangeable.

Re: Vespa grande cuts out

Dylan, does it ever not cut out because u said " it cuts out when idling and when u give it throttle "
