Scratched cylinder

Thomas Mash Potatoes /

I got a new cylinder from treats & the piston came pre-installed, I was taking it out & I scratched the cylinder with some light scratching. Have I ruined everything?

Not even close. That would come out with even the lightest sanding.

Re: Scratched cylinder

Give it a good buffing and it clean it up good.

Re: Scratched cylinder

Why even contaminate with any sand or residue just put some oil on the parts and assemble the damn motor already....Break-in will clean that up...

Thanks guy, I'll get to building then & not worry about it!

Re: Scratched cylinder

only worry I have is how it got there. is it scratched by the ring? or piece of dirt? I mean the scratches there wont make any difference at all, but if theres some piece of grit embedded in the piston and you just run it that way, mmm no good.

Check your ring in the bore without the piston but push it in with the piston and shine a light and make sure it's making full contact I think you might have a bent ring.
