TOMOS A35 dying WOT and four stroking

Hey relearned a lot of things this week and have formed a diagnosis I home the Bright young minds of moped army can help me with.

I have a stock tomos ideling great and over all sounds good , when I ride it starts good but maxes out at 20 mph and dies on WOT. If I reduce the throttle too 80-90 percent it starts running again but it fourstrokes then dies at stops.

I have read the how far from 4 stroking guide but it still seems unclear

Spark plug has nice color but may be too cold which is confusing, what could be causing this? Would a blown seal cause this or am I too rich ? Do I need to reject or is the problem bigger than that? Thanks

Brandon Weiss (Detective brandon to you) /

Post a picture of your spark plug. A white color or a powdery whitish substance would indicate a lean condition, milk chocolate brown would be ideal, if it's black and sooty and covered in gunk then you're too rich.

This would just be a rough indicator of where you are in terms of jetting though.

Is the bike 100% stock?

if it's points your condenser is on the way out.

What is your set up: what pipe ? stock or performance what cylinder, what, ignition, what year, what carb, what filter I mean you got to give us more information

Re: TOMOS A35 dying WOT and four stroking

Like I said totally stock original airbox NGK BH7

Dellorto 14.12, stock pipe 53 jet which is original for the 2001 targa I believe

Re: TOMOS A35 dying WOT and four stroking

100 % I'll post my plug tonight and try and put some miles on it because I've only ridden a mile or two on it because of the whole dying of WOT thing

Re: TOMOS A35 dying WOT and four stroking

No I checked to make sure

Re: TOMOS A35 dying WOT and four stroking

I have a cdi, how would I test the condenser or is it worth just throwing a new one on they're not that expensive

1st , go to the top of the page and click VIEW FLAT .

Condenser test :

Disconnect the condenser from the system .

Short it's center terminal / wire to it's case .

Apply voltage ( 6 or 12 volt battery ) : negative battery terminal to the condenser case and positive battery terminal to the condenser center terminal / wire , simultaneously .

Clear the battery away from the test area , as gases could ignite and blow the battery up .

Finally , touch the condenser center terminal / wire end to the condenser case .

If there's a decent spark , the condenser is still doing it's job .

2001 ignition does not have a condenser so don’t give the guy the wrong information

Re: TOMOS A35 dying WOT and four stroking

Is it possible I just have too much oil in my gas ? I removed the premixer so I'm just running Lucas two stroke at a 50:1

I did not give the guy wrong information .

He asked how to test a condenser .

I explained that procedure .

It's up to him to know if his bike or the bike he's working on has such an animal .

Re: TOMOS A35 dying WOT and four stroking

Sall good boys

Re: TOMOS A35 dying WOT and four stroking

Ken might just be looking out for your best interest .

He is much more 'versed' in mopeds than I'll likely be in years from now .
