motobecane stalling when using brakes

Herm Gilliam /

Has anyone experienced their moby stalling when brakes are used, or when switching headlight on ?

Re: motobecane stalling when using brakes

Could be bad ground at tail light.

Re: motobecane stalling when using brakes

This is why French bikes are feared and reviled by some. they're super weird in a few specific ways and one of them (at least for me) is they somehow have some magicaly inter-relation between ignition and lighting that no one else does, I am ashamed to say I don't know how it really works, but it's real.

1st, is yours the 6v (pre 78) or 12v (3 coil post 78)?

Hah, I just looked for the diagram and 1st thing I found is this moby wiring diagram that appears to be explaining exactly the problem you're having.

yes its actually a 12v( 3 coil post) manufanturing date Feb of 1979 with separate brake & tail bulbs, runs like a champ, but when brakes are applied

it stalls

Re: motobecane stalling when using brakes

Some mopeds stall when brake bulb is burned out and you hit brake lever. don-ohio (:^)

I'm certain it all started when i noticed the original brake light switch

had deterioated, and literally fell apart when i removed the rubber.

Thanks again
