Back fire through the carb?

wilfrin hiciano /

I have been riding my bike trying out new clutch settings. It seems like when I decelerate, the carb kind of spits at me through the air intake. Does that mean that my timing is off?

Re: Back fire through the carb?

NO!

That helps a lot. Thanks -___-

Re: Back fire through the carb?

When this happened on my Moby, it was the condenser. Timing was fine but the condenser was toast.

thanks max ill look into that

Re: Back fire through the carb?

All piston port motors spit gas out of the carburetor, sometimes enough to get your pants leg wet...

the way it does it tho is like a pop/puff from the carb.

Re: Back fire through the carb?

Sounds like misfire check points and/or ignition timing...

Maybe for you but I had very few bikes do that

Re: Back fire through the carb?

If low compression piston/rings on their last legs....

Re: Back fire through the carb?

cool...

This is semi-common for piston port engines but usually isnt that much. Sounds like its misfiring for some reason

Re: Back fire through the carb?

Yeah, a decent air filter will fix that...

I was thinking of that. Currently I have no air filter on it

Re: Back fire through the carb?

As I posted if it's spitting gas then the filter is what you want...but if it's popping/mis-firing then check points/ign. and compression...

I current don't have an air filter on my bing carb at all. Does that affect air flow at all?

Re: Back fire through the carb?

Yeah, a little...but try and get the $14. metal mesh K&N style filter and be good-to-go....
