***UPDATE***

I'm still alive! And working on it when able.

Just got the front tire on, finished up the spark plug wire, put the 100 main jet it the ebay carb and mounted it. I'm slowly cleaning up the wiring, I should be able to check spark with a couple kicks at this point.

I plan to clean the gas tank with some apple cider vinegar this weekend to clean it, get that mounted and run a fuel line, filter and shutoff to the carb. Maybe the wife can stitch up a replacement seat cover, still thinking over seat material options. Inputs?

So premixed oil.....do I NEED Amsoil Dominator or Royal Purple or can I run a house brand? Also, 40 or 50 to 1????

Thx,

Mike

What part number did you get from Autozone to plug the oil injector space with?

Re: QT50 rebuild options

Get a "freeze plug" or take the gear off the end of the oil pump and re-install.

Re: QT50 rebuild options

Mike Benes /

Jack, I just measured the hole the injector pump sat in and went to O'Rielly's to buy an expandable freeze plug that covered that range. Cost about 2 bucks.

Here's how she looks with the wheels/tires mounted.

I also removed/cleaned/replaced the front and rear brakes and reconnected everything.

That is one MEAN Motorscooter! Nice Job! Can't wait to see a video. Thanks for the tip on the oil injector. I may just remove the gear.

Re: QT50 rebuild options

Mike Benes /

Thanks Jack. I can't wait to get it running!

Re: QT50 rebuild options

Thanks Arlie. I saw your suggestion in one of the many posts to this thread that a Puch high compression head is a quick and dirty performance option. I found one fairly cheap on ebay. What kind of improvement do you see with these on a stock QT50 except with KN air filter and what else will I need to do (different jet)?

Thanks in advance.

Re: QT50 rebuild options

Mostly take off increase. Could up jet but stock runs a little rich so a better flowing lightly oiled filter will be ok with up jet

IMG_20140608_201145.jpg

Stock 70 jet, K&N, Head from Treats, and tires from Treats. A lot better than all stock. Try stock jet and run it and check your plug is the only way to be sure.

Re: QT50 rebuild options

Mike Benes /

Arlie, premix ratio?

Re: QT50 rebuild options

Sorry I meant to say it is OK with out an up jet. But you can up jet to a #75 main if you want. Premix 40:1 to 50:1

Re: QT50 rebuild options

Mike lookin good.

Re: QT50 rebuild options

Mike Benes /

I ordered a 95 and 100 jet per your recommendation and put the 100 main jet in.

With the 100 main and a 50:1 mix, will I be ok?

Thx Arlie!

Re: QT50 rebuild options

OOOOOH I forgot you got that 60cc kit, man I'm off today. lol

Ya that should be a good place to start. You might consider going a little heaver on the oil mix just for break in and tuning. Check the plug often it will tell you where you want to be. Temp gauge is also helpful.

Re: QT50 rebuild options

Keep in mind it may take a tank or two of riding to get piston rings broke in fully.

Re: QT50 rebuild options

Mike Benes /

Ok, will keep that in mind. Should I stay out of WOT for a tank or so and just focus on varying the RPM?

Re: QT50 rebuild options

I would wait on wot at least till you do a short run and your first plug check just to make sure its not too lean. I don't think you'll have a problem. If your not lean rip it as you please.

Re: QT50 rebuild options

how much clearance do you have between the motor and tire with weight on it?, looks scary close.

Re: QT50 rebuild options

Mike Benes /

I'll know this weekend when I clean the tank and mount it. You're making me nervous.

Re: QT50 rebuild options

hahaha lol. No you should be OK as is. More a safer than sorry kinda thing. Take your time and it will be fine. Run it couple mins check the plug, would rather be rich than lean to start. I think you mean excited.lol

Re: QT50 rebuild options

Mike Benes /

Excited to clean and mount the tank and hear it run.

Nervous thinking about rear tire interference with weight applied.

Re: QT50 rebuild options

Mike Benes /

Ok, tank is cleaned and mounted. New feul hose and filter installed. Cleaned up a few other things. There are no tire interference issues with weight on the bike either, phew....big relief!!!!!!!

I bought a semi-synthetic Lucas 2 stroke oil to run 2 tanks of 40:1 thru initially. Any problems with with Lucas stuff?

Also, talk to me about exhaust pipes. The factory exhaust piping is likely too small, so a factory header cut down with a Treats black chamber will likely not work.

I'm not a fan of the MLM pipes, what are some other options?
