Puch e50 clutch no key qiestion

Hi,

Today I decided to pull my clutch to tighten the springs on my newly acquired Puch Newport e50.

To my surprised it was e 3 shoe clutch. The thing that I was even more surprised by was the lack of a key or keyway on either the clutch or crankshaft. All the youtube videos show one. It is an 86 model, did they do away with then on the newer bikes?

Three shoe need no key way

Just torque correctly

You probably have a factory needle crank too :)

Ken,

What took so long to get back, almost 2 min. Disregard the email.

Two of the screws were about a half turn above flush. I turned all in about 3 turns from flush but only notice a modest difference in clutch engagement on takeoff.

Wonder why they went keyless, seems odd.

The key on the flywheel or clutch doesn't hold any load. For the flywheel its useful because the timing could shift when tightening the nut down. The clutch on the other hand has no need for the key. Ever remove a clutch that hasn't been removed before? That taper holds it tight.

Blue are feeble

Get Kickstart springs 3 turns in from flush.

Big difference

Re: Puch e50 clutch no key qiestion

Thanks for the clarification. I did notice that the engine direction will tighten, not loosen the nut.

Ken,

On a mild, Pipe/air filter/no head gasket, motor will I need to think about a clutch brace for this setup with the kickstart springs?

No not at all

No brace needed for around 3-3.5 turns in from flush

Re: Puch e50 clutch no key qiestion

I will order the springs tomorrow from Treats

Thanks again for all the good skinny.
