Why does it sound like a horse when shifting?

Francis Cronley /

So I starting a pals riding a tomos arrow, and it would only start on kickstand. If I started it off the kickstand, or if I rolled it off after starting, it dies. I cleaned the carb, and it started. When I rode it, and it was time to shift into 2nd, it popped out of gear and made a screeching noise, similar to a horse. I changed the oil, and it continued to do so, only it didn't pop out of gear, it shifted. It still sounds like a horse though. What is that noise and how can I stop it? Thanks.

The noise stopped. I guess it needed to soak for a while?

Probably a bearing on its way out.

My transmission nickers at me when the oil to too low or too thin. Doesn't screech though.

If it sounds like this, it may need a bit of everything.
