trac olympic moped carburetor problem

joseph johnson /

ive had this trac olympic moped for quite a while and haven't done much to it.when i got it, it would run ok but leak fuel when idling and would be troublesome to start and would flood easy, so i didnt pay much attention to it and would ride it occasionally. then one day while ridding it it would die out when you give it gas and started leaking worse, mechanically everything seems to be ok everything works as it should except for the carb, i tried looking up parts for this scooter and seems pretty hard to come by so i came here for help i want to restore this scooter to a usable condition so i can ride it around town for fun on a regular basis. motor seems strong and i cant imagine that i would have to do a lot to reach my goal. i have attached some pictures to what i believe is causing the problem the float cover is gone and someone glued the bottom of a plastic bottle in its place. i would like to find the bowl cover and a rebuild kit for the carb or just buy another working carb that fits and do a retro fit if that's possible. also i would like to find a motor cover and whatever went over the battery, im also missing the engine cover on the left side. any help would be appreciated.

summarized: anyone know where i can buy a float cover and additional parts for this carburetor? or a carburetor that us compatible with this scooter?

also does anyone know where i can find the left engine cover and whole engine cover or battery cover?

thank you in advance for the help

i may be mistaken but i dont think this is a m56 engine because in the link you posted it described the carb to be on the right side and saying you have to take the drive belt off. and mine you don't its on the left side. or maybe that link wasn't intended for me.

Re: trac olympic moped carburetor problem

If you're looking for the stock carb, it's a mikuni vm13 for the Olympic, the manual lists it as a VM-13-153 but you'll find it elsewhere as a vm13-83 because I don't know why.

http://www.allensperformance.com/vm13-83.html

The engine is a Daelim DP50 (Daelim being the company that makes Trac), one speed with an internal wet clutch/gearbox.

Not sure about parts but yeah that ghetto bowl looks crummy, you might be able to find a replacement carb now that you have the number. Also your air box is missing, try to get a filter or something over the intake end of the carb to engine conditions somewhat back to normal.

Trac specific parts like fairings are tricky, eBay and the mopedarmy for sale section are gonna be your best bet.

Good luck, they're a pain to find parts for but move quick in stock form when you get them running right. BTW, the oil injection system slowly leaks oil into carb via the intake when it sits for long periods of time and eventually floods it, may or may not be related, might be worth running premix until it runs right.
