my maxi has good original spoked wheels that could use some love, i would like to have new spokes installed. In my experience building bicycles, it is general practice to replace the hubs when rebuilding (to not reuse them).

think my old hubs have what it takes to be reused? or play it safe and order a couple new hubs?

ps. any idea why replacement wheels are so tough to find?

Re: re-spoke?

Why would you replace the hubs? In my years of working at a bike shop, I've never heard of doing this. Why not just re-pack the bearings?

Edit: Well, certainly you would replace them if the bearing cups are pitted, but I've never heard of anyone replacing hubs but keeping rims; it's usually a matter of re-lacing new rims on to existing hubs. (edited)
