Electrical issue on 1978 Kreidler MP9

Hey dudes,

I was lucky enough to find a super nice Kreidler MP9 2 speed moped a few weeks back. I put gas/oil mix in it and boom all was well. Not long after that the petcock went bad and was leaking, I fixed that and the carb started leaking, I adjusted the carb and now the only issue is that when I pull either break lever it kills the engine. I feel this is 100% an electrical issue as it idles fine.

A little more background- The break light went out about the same time this all started. I replaced that thinking it could have been some safety feature.

Could it be that the gas leak shorted something out? Any ideas? I really appreciate your time and knowledge!

I have attached the wiring digram incase any of you are hip to what might be going on.

proof would be disconnect the 2 wires off one brake switch, then short them together, ped dies, it's electrical not clutch related.

as that diagram only shows the ground as in common to the 2 circuits, i'd start there.

ht coil ground, taillight ground both are suspect to backfeed bypassing a poor ground.
