Peugeot 103 bogging down at 25mph?

Jeremy Van Orman /

Starts and accelerates great. I get to 25mph and it starts to bog down and stutter a bit. Not really sure how t describe it. Muffler is clean and compression is good. May post a video tomorrow. Carb seems clean. Everything is stock. What do you think I should look at next?

Hi Jeremy, welcome to mopeds. Check out the wiki for tips on posting.

On your 103, have you done any mods to the bike. electrical or otherwise? What else can you tell us about what you have already done with your bike.

You need to learn what a lean bog and a rich bog (4 stroking) sound like.

Next, run your bike through Freds Guide: http://www.mopedarmy.com/wiki/Fred%27s_Guide

and here is the wiki article on your specific bike

Thanks. Totally four stroking. I'll look into it.

Update: Seemed to be four stroking at anything over 25mph. Up until then, it was great, low end was solid. Cleaned the carb and air filter. Put it back on and it did the same thing. Going to get a new carb soon to replace the stock gurtner so I decided to put a small hole in the air filter box to give it a little more air. Now it's no longer four stroking and is hitting 35mph easy. But now, my low end sucks. Takes it's time to speed up. I'm assuming that it is running a little lean at lower rpms and great at higher rpms. Should I bother fucking with it more or just wait until I order a carb?

Thanks

I have shortened the stock starter shoes using cheetahs wiki post.

Re: Peugeot 103 bogging down at 25mph?

measure the pin from the float to the pointy end, this is adjustable.

post it here in mm.

depending where it is, you can enrichen by sliding the float towards the point a mm (maybe) pending feedback from others.

getting +10 mph by derestricting the airbox is nearly unbelieveable.

otherwise, just put a tab of tape partly over the hole you made, regulate it.

Re: Peugeot 103 bogging down at 25mph?

wait for your carb, take 3 balls out of the vario, lighten your vario weights

If he was running rich and 4 stroking at anything above half throttle, a 10mph gain is totally believable. I see that with my bikes all the time. Always start rich and work to lean. As soon as you hit that point where it wont 4 stroke at WOT, she takes off. I'm seeing a 3-4mph difference in one bike now with just a one-jet size change.
