Why are case and base gaskets sometimes presoaked in oil by people? Only thing I can come up with is so hopefully you won't rip the gaskets when you take the engine apart again.

Re: oil soaked gaskets
Oil soaking is a must for a good seal after the first start up.
Re: oil soaked gaskets
Always.
Re: oil soaked gaskets
I know a few pro's who drop em in dry. Haven't seen any issues so doesn't matter what you do?
Re: oil soaked gaskets
Why not soak a gasket in oil if you can. Leaving it dry just makes it more likely to develop an airleak. It's not a given but it can happen.
Re: oil soaked gaskets
oiling also makes it a lot less of a pain in the dick to replace gaskets upon disassembly.
Re: oil soaked gaskets
I oil the gaskets because then casings assemble nicer, seals better and disassembles cleaner.
