'06 Streetmate won''t start

Kevin Guerrero /

The other day the screws that connect the exhaust to the cylinder head completely came off while riding. I decided to take the gasket head off and noticed the gasket was shot and the piston ring was as well. I bought the parts and installed them. Everything went smoothly. When I go to kick start the bike, its fairly tough. It wont start at all now. It used to start on one pick. Any ideas?

So I take it apart and this is what I see. I guess a new piston is what I need?

Yep, new piston. How is the cylinder?

The cylinder is fine. Looked unharmed from what I can see.

Where would you recommend buying the piston? I have a 70cc kit so I would need the 43mm correct?

uh, what kit? some are 44 some are 45.

it looks like somwthing got into your piston, do you run an air filter?

He broke a ring and put a replacement ring on. He probably didn't clean out the crankcase and had a chunk of broken ring in there that got picked up and went into the piston.

You have a piston port A55, yes? If so, this is what you need:
