piston ring trouble

Nathan DeVore /

Ok I've now ordered and broke 2 47mm piston rings for the 74cc airsal kit I just got, while trying to fit the piston into the cylinder. What the hell am I doing wrong?! Is there some tool I need for this operation that I've somehow managed to glaze over in the repair manual? Any advice would help me greatly.

Re: piston ring trouble

First check the end gap on the rings by placing them in the cylinder and measuring with a feeler gauge.

When you put the rings on the piston make sure the ends are located where the anti rotation pins are in the ring groove.

Gah..Anti rotation pins, ok well this all seems to make sense now. I hadn't even seen those or read about them any where for that matter, but no wonder I was just sitting there struggling and snapping piston rings left and right. Thanks for the help.

Re: piston ring trouble

theres a little pin sticking up and the hole in the ring, goes in that. you place the ring on taht, the hole goes there.
