I'm Brad. I'm a reside in Massachusetts. Pretty new to the moped scene. Ive owned multiple dirt bikes, atvs, 2 mopeds and 3 motorized bicycles so i have some knowledge about single cylinder engines, but i hope to learn MUCH more. Last night i bought my first moped "project".
It's a 1970s Vespa Ciao.. Its in pretty rough shape right now, but for what i paid for it (45$ bucks!!) that's sort of expected..
The description i received when i called the seller was that it was basically a "parts" moped. It hadn't run in years, the motor was said to be seized, the handle bars / steering column is snapped, wheels and tires are junk, so his 100$ asking price seemed a bit far-fetched to me. I got to researching for hours about these and they seem like decent quality mopeds and i was almost positive it would be mine..
Well last night i went and looked at it.. Matched his description and the picture he had posted exactly. Everything seemed to be there, so to me i didn't get why this would be for parts, also i noticed that the decompression cable wasn't even hooked up.. So I'm hoping that's why it was labeled as "seized".. The motor wont turn over with out the decompression I'm guessing..?? The guy was in the storage auction business, the ped came out of a unit he bought and had been sitting since. He didn't seem to know much about the bike itself.. .
I will begin working on it tomorrow and see if it is indeed seized up, Ive got a lot of work ahead of me but i am really excited about bringing this thing back to life! I can already see how its going to look in my head when it is done.
