Honda urban express throttle sticking

Dave Schuman /

This is my second year owning a 1982 honda urban express nu50, lately the throttle started not returning to the original position, meaning i would have to throttle down manually turning my hand forwards. but now when ridding it will get stuck on full throttle and ill have to shut it off pull over and pull the cable control lever back to close, i was wondering if it was the throttle cable or the handle assemble itself. by the way the other end of the cable(cable control lever) the spring works fine.

Re: Honda urban express throttle sticking

Spray the cable to loosen it up, very easy. Cable needs some TLC after about the 30yrs, if its original to that time.

yeah thats right! and brake cables too..... take the cable off and keep adding drops of light oil in one end while working the cable by hand and then do the other side, repeat as needed. if that aint it check the roundness of the throttle slide maybe it got out of round, lightly use 600 grit wet sand it. or your needle valve got bent???? make sure it's seated correctly in the carb. it could also be your throttle thingy in your grip that the cable wraps around maybe thats wornout/broke

..........or your inner cables are fraying, and getting bound in the outer cable.

the cable wasn't lubed enough you were right, fixed the problem, now just driving home the cable lost tension as if the cable snapped but it didn't and i heard a noise in the throttle assembly itself (no tension in the handle). does anyone have a diagram of the handle assembly so i can look at this in the morning. Thanks

took apart the assembly today, throttle cable top bead came off the cable itself, idk if its fixable or if i have to get a new cable I'm assuming .. just the top part. Any ideas on where to get one?

Re: Honda urban express throttle sticking

I have two break cables and the throttle cable is sticking. What kind of spray is good for this case? Or where can I buy a new one. Tks

Re: Honda urban express throttle sticking

9 tear old thread ???

Depending on how stuck the cables are , I'd start with penetrating oil and end with chain and cable lube .

Those cables are NLA from Honda .

Search the part #s on Google or eBay might have something .
