I did post about my air leak again and again...( I searched and searched and tried everything show on this forum)

is this simple task?

I tried new gasket, permtex liquid gasket, torque wrench, new lock nuts and washer.

I still have air leak, how hard I try it's not working ....

I did build this magnum from scrach but somehow I can't fix this damn air leak...

I never had this problems, it's my first time and it's driving me crazy...

if anyone know what else I can do, please I need advise...

thanks..

Re: please help!

do you know where the air leak is coming from?

are the surfaces true and clean?

air leak on head gasket and base gasket area,

I am sure the 50 cc #22 head is flat and clean, the 70cc dmp where the head and cylinder meet is flat and clean. I am pretty sure the 70cc cylinder is in good condition.

I don't know if the stud is bad... I was tighting the nut and stud broke....two times...i was using torque wrench 10pound....

nuts are new with new lock washer...

I don't know maybe the nuts are not equaly tight? or maybe the compression is too high? I don't know....

what should check? please tell me step by step what to check..

thanks...

Re: please help!

make sure your studs are in the case all the way.

make sure the bottom skirt isn't hitting the case, preventing a good seal.

Re: please help!

what bottom skirt? are you talking about cylinder skirt? or piston skirt? if it's the cylinder skirt(sometime it's hard to push in the cylinder skirt inside the base) this could be the reason of leak?

I always take all mating surfaces, and run them over a flat surface with 600 grit, just to make sure the mating surfaces are perfectly flat. newzac hit it. Your not sanding down the surface, but after a few strokes, you'll be able to see the casting defects. Trusting any new moped part without checking it first is foolhardy. You'll be surprised how badly, moped parts are made.

I did sand it on flat suffice the head and cylinder where head meet.

I couldn't do anything to cylinder wher goes inside the case.

I don't know what I can do... To stop this leak.

If one if that surface is not flat will cause this air leak?

How do I check bottom side of cylinder if it's flat or not?

If my stud is bad, this would happen too?

If you broke two studs with a torque wench at a setting of 10lbs, either your torque wrench is broken, or you are using that cheap ass threaded rod for homemade studs. Are you?

Re: please help!

Puch head nuts are torqued to 10nm, or 7ftlbs. I torqued them to 10ftlbs with a torque wrench for a long time and wondered why I kept stripping studs.

Re: please help!

Nope the stud was there when I bought this engine. It doesnt seem to be home made... My bolt didn't strip, this is my second time breaking stud... ... Maybe the stud is bad... I don't know what else should I check now?

I am sure the head is flat! I used 300 grits to sand it down flat.

Head and where the cylinder meet the head. It's evenly sanded.

If this correct I should not get air leak on head gasket, but it leaks.

The stud is bad so maybe the nut is not righting equally?

Ah damn stresss...

Figure out a way to pressurize the system..

get a squirt bottle with soapy water and apply the soapy water.

If the engine is free .... you can pressurize it and put it in a big tub of water and look for air leaks like one can do for a tire or tube..

Is it really such a good idea to submerge you engine in water? I would be worried about water getting into my case or electronic parts.

Also what is the best way to pressurize the cylinder? Someone told me to use some kind of vacuum gun? Where do I find this?

This?

Or is there a cheaper option? Also does the above tool double as a compression tester?

Re: please help!

one of my friend told me that stud is streched so that is why i broke the stud. when thread strech the nut wont hold tight anymore( the space between the threed should remain same)

I don't know if this is correct but I am waiting for new stud. I might able to find this stud m6x106mm local.

if this solves it I will post again.

thanks to everybody who helped me

Re: please help!

So bad stud might cause airleak? Make sense?

I can't find another reason...

Re: please help!

apoca lypsis /

I tried new stud and new nuts and lock nuts...still leaks....now...I am about to give up and take it to the shop or something...

anyother way why it's leaking?

Doubt it caused the problem, but next time you might want to do 600 then 1200.

The 600 will make it easy to spot any defects and the 1200 will work out the scratches made by the 600.

Best flat surface for sanding is glass. Stop Lowe's or Home Depot and pick up a 12"x12" mirror (they are usually a dollar or two) firmly attach it to a table or work bench and tape the sand paper to it as taught as possible.
