Puch only running with choke

I have a 1975 Puch bombardier(Maxi) all stock. I just got it running today but if I give it some throttle after starting it with the choke on it just runs and runs and will not throttle down unless I push the choke down. I have no idea what is going on here........any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

I will try and tighten everything down with the light of day tomorrow. Any one else have some other things I might be able to check???

I really feel like everything is tight tight

It is almost like the throttle is just not returning to an idle when I throttle up. As I said it runs fine with the choke down. I even tried to adjust the idle screw.....

I am at a loss

I just want my second ped to run........my first one needs a friend

Re: Puch only running with choke

Take the air box off and repeat the experiment. When it's sitting there on the stand revving like mad (when you would usually push the choke down), take a quick (and careful! watch the chain!) look down the back of the carb. If the throttle slide is all the way up even though you've returned the throttle grip back to zero (no throttle) then yeah, something in the carb is sticking.

Either way, it wouldn't be a bad idea to clean your carb and check for air leaks after you're done. And if you don't want to do that, check for air leaks before you go tightening everything down. You might not have air leaks in some places (or in any places) -- why risk stripping something if you aren't leaking there?

These are all good suggestions. I will clean and reassemble tomorrow morning..... If anyone has anything else to add feel free

AND

If anyone is near rochester, ny and wants to help bring my moped to life. I am more than happy to entertain(ie beer or coffee or food or just a good old hoedown in my backyard......) anyone who wants to help.....

Re: Puch only running with choke

Sticking carb and or air leaks should be your first check.

However, just don't tighten things to tighten them. Everything has a specific toque setting. For example, if you over torque your head bolts, you are potentially change your squish zone (which changes how your engine runs).

Clean your carb. Check to see that the slide is not sticking. Make sure your cable isn't pulling the slide up at idle when it shouldn't be (aka your cable is too tight).

You can get it running and quick spray around with carb cleaner to also see if you have an air leak.

those are a few things to consider.

Re: Puch only running with choke

spray down with carb cleaner anywhere you could have and air leak ie intake, around cylinder head etc. that will quickly tell you if thats the problem

Sounds like an air leak. Spray it down with carb cleaner if it stalls then you have an air leak. Tighten everything down and repeat, if it still stalls then get a new gasket set.
